SB 1 was the culmination of 3 years of negotiations between various goods movement stakeholders, including CTA, legislative leaders, and the Administration that saw the passage of a 10 year $5.2 billion annual transportation funding package. To develop the funding necessary for this critical road funding package, the Legislature included several controversial provisions such as increasing the fuel tax 12 cents per gallon, 20 cent diesel tax increase, 4% increase to the diesel excise tax, and an increase to the VLF for passenger vehicles on a sliding scale depending on the value of the vehicle.
